Cambridge Wealth is an AMFI-registered Mutual Fund & SIF Distributor working with NRIs investing into India. Its goal-linked allocation process organises scheme information around your stated goals, timelines, liquidity needs and cross-border constraints across mutual funds, SIFs, fixed deposits and — subject to eligibility and minimums — PMS and AIF categories. Portfolio analysis and drift correction show where current weights sit against the allocation you set, and documentation support covers NRI KYC, NRE/NRO records, FATCA/CRS declarations, tax residency and Form 10F.
What an NRI Can Access From Abroad
The categories open to you, what each one needs on the account and documentation side, and where eligibility actually stops.
Eligibility Mapping by Residence
Which categories are open to you turns on your country of residence, not just NRI status. US- and Canada-resident investors face additional AMC-level requirements, and some categories close entirely. This is settled before anything else is discussed.
SIFs from ₹10 lakh, PMS from ₹50 lakh, AIFs from ₹1 crore for an ordinary investor: a threshold question, not a default one. Where you clear a threshold, the scheme information for that category becomes relevant; where you do not, it does not.
NRE, NRO and FCNR are not interchangeable. Which account funds an investment determines what you can repatriate later and how the interest and gains are taxed, and correcting it afterwards is considerably harder than getting it right first.
Compare eligible schemes on structure, mandate, underlying holdings, liquidity and exit terms — including the alternative categories, where the exit terms and lock-ins differ far more between schemes than they do in plain mutual funds.
KYC, FATCA/CRS self-certification and tax-residency documents handled digitally, with calls in your time zone. Distance changes the logistics of starting, not the categories available to you.
Repatriation Documentation From Day One
The records that make a future repatriation straightforward — source-of-funds evidence per account, folio-level statements, Form 15CA/CB inputs — assembled as you invest rather than reconstructed years later at exit.
Most NRIs starting to invest in India begin with the wrong question. Not which fund, but which account the money should come from, what residency status applies this financial year, and which documents have to exist before the first transaction rather than after it. Get that sequence right and product selection is the easy part; get it wrong and the tax leakage and repatriation friction can take years to correct. Cambridge Wealth's goal-linked allocation process starts from your stated goals, timelines and liquidity needs, sets an asset allocation framework against them, and organises scheme information around that framework — including which account holds what. Every scheme considered passes a documented 108-point research review across 5,000+ Indian investment products. You get portfolio analysis and drift correction, visibility into holdings, and written disclosure of how Cambridge Wealth is compensated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which categories can I actually access as an NRI?
Mutual funds and Specialised Investment Funds, fixed deposits including NRE, NRO and FCNR, government securities through RBI Retail Direct, real-estate-backed alternatives, and — subject to eligibility — PMS at a ₹50 lakh regulatory minimum, and AIFs at ₹1 crore for an ordinary investor or ₹25 lakh for qualifying employees and directors of the fund. Access varies by country of residence and by AMC.
What is actually off-limits to me?
Agricultural land and farmhouses, new PPF accounts, NPS Tier II, and new Sovereign Gold Bond subscriptions, which require FEMA residence in India. An existing PPF opened before you became an NRI can generally run to its original maturity but cannot be extended beyond it.
How do I start, and how much can be done remotely?
Confirm your residency status for the current financial year, complete NRI KYC, set up the right NRE/NRO structure, and complete FATCA/CRS self-certification before selecting a single scheme. Most of that is handled digitally, though some intermediaries still require a wet-signature step and a few AMCs apply extra requirements for US- and Canada-resident investors.
Which account should the money come from?
Foreign earnings should route to NRE or FCNR, where interest is exempt from Indian tax while your NRI status holds; NRO is for income arising in India and its interest is taxed at source. Getting this wrong is a frequent source of avoidable, compounding tax leakage, and it also determines what you can repatriate later.
How much of my portfolio belongs in India?
It follows the currency your future liabilities are denominated in, not a percentage rule. Rupee goals — parents' care, education in India, an eventual return — are hedged directly by an India allocation; if your life and spending stay abroad, India functions as diversification instead. We map your stated goals against the categories open to you and show what an allocation looks like each way.
What can Cambridge Wealth do, and what is outside its scope?
As an AMFI-registered Mutual Fund & SIF Distributor it provides scheme information and comparison, investment access and execution support, portfolio analysis, and drift correction within scheme mandates. Fee-based services sit with a SEBI-Registered RIA, discretionary investment decisions fall outside a Mutual Fund Distributor's role, and tax and legal matters sit with your own professionals. The scheme information and portfolio analysis are yours to act on; the decision stays with you.
How is Cambridge Wealth compensated?
Through commission and trail income received from asset management companies, with no fee charged to you. Remuneration disclosures are provided in writing before you transact, and product-level costs such as expense ratios and exit loads are set out in each scheme's own documentation.
How does a scheme get onto Cambridge Wealth's list?
Every scheme considered for the research universe passes a documented 108-point research framework covering 5,000+ Indian investment products, assessed on quantitative metrics and qualitative factors including structure, mandate, underlying holdings, liquidity and exit terms.
